i want to format my pc, but i want the files and installers in my drive D to be there intact..is that possible? how?

be sure to remove any files and data from c to d

1- have a windows xp professional bootable cd
2-press del when you start up your windows
3-enter bios menu and choose first boot device as cd rom
4-save and exit and pc will be restarted
5- u will be on dos type
format c:
6- it will ask u r u sure press yes
then continue installing windows

after backing up your files on your c drive to your d drive, you need to enter bios either by pressing, the delete key, or f2, or whatever key your bios requires and change the boot order so that it boots from the cd drive first. then stick your windows cd in the drive and restart the computer. when it starts, it should say something like press any key to boot from cd or something like that. so you press any key and it boots from cd. then you partition the c drive, leave the d drive alone, and install windows onto the c drive after formatting the c drive.
