Homebrew is a term referring to Custom-made software that runs on a PSP with hombrew-enabled firmware (HEN for short) i.e. 1.5 , 2.71, SE and OE (aka customfirmwares). One of the most popular programs is DevHook which allows you to run isos and umds, from a lower firmware, which require a higher firmware to run, WITHOUT UPGRADING. Unfortunately, there are no downgraders that I know of for 2.81 only 2.80, unlcuky mate. But hold on because the psp dudes are working hard. til then, do not upgrade

To play, video files must be in MPEG4 or AVC format and have a sound kbps {kilobytes per second) transfer rate of 128kb or lower AND a video transfer rate of 768kbps. If your movie file shows up on your PSP as "corrupt data" your video and/or audio transfer rates most likely exceed the 768/128kbps limits and cannot be read or played by the PSP.
Video files that have been transferred from your PC to your PSP must be placed in specific folders included with your PSP. These files automatically show up on your memory stick when the initial formatting of the stick is performed (this is necessary to do when you install a new memory stick).

homebrew is illegal in many senses if not licenced by sony and if it is free, it usually needs a software called DEVICE HOOK(some versions illegal) 0.22 or 0.02. Homebrew games are like ISO games, illegal. ISO games usually need DEVHOOK and a UMD EMULATOR(illegal) you can put MP4 videos on the PSP
