Mine never went away, been years now.
The other two people I know who suffer with tinnitus have it permanently too.

It can last as long as your ear infection (a couple of days) or it can last for your lifetime if they can't find the cause or it can last some time in the middle. It may also come and go. The cause will depend on how bad it gets and the treatment, how the treatment will work and how long you will have it.

It depends on the level and cause of the damage.
If you've just been to a great gig and been too close to the PA system then you might suffer from it for a day or so.
Gunfire and explosions can be short lived but cause impairment at a deeper level which restricts your total hearing range.
Infections can in some circumstances lead to permanent damage. You should visit a hearing specialist if it goes on for long.

I had it a few years back after drilling in an enclosed area. I went to the hospital and they did a hearing test and told me I hadn't done any permanent damage. But it still lasted about 18 months and has very slowly dissappeared to the point where I dont notice it any more. Get it checked out, they should be able to tell you if it is permanent damage or not. Good luck.

It started for me when I was 5. I'm now 31, and it's still here. Lots of different things can cause tinnitus. If the damage is permanent, then you'll probably be stuck with it. If it's from an ear infection or something minor, it could just as easily go away.
If you're concerned, ask a doctor.

This varies a lot. I have had bouts of this as a side-effect of sinus infection and colds and flu symptoms which were only of short duration. However some relatives have had intermittent tinnitus all their adult lives which has never really being diagnosced as to the root cause.

Tinnitus is very often for life. I've had it for about 15 years, some days it is worse than others. After a time, you learn to live with it.

Tinnitus, if caused by deterioration in hearing is likely to last the rest of your life. See your GP and get referred to an ENT specialist.
