No offence intended if you are indeed awake - but there are some so subtle questions that Americans think are serious and it goes right over your head and you get upset with the asker. What time do you all get up UK time?

;-)

LOl x 10000! good one. See the Life of Brian Documentary on BBC last night? about the controversy. Some brilliant things there about how the americans reacted to it....Someone made the comment that what the americans were reacting most to was British humour, which is too "think for yourself" for them...

Bloody hell, I think some are thicker than the entire tree stump. Two planks indeed. I refuse to share English humour with most Americans. They have comedians who spit things in their face, so have never learned to process...
Most are nice people, challenged by cranial density.

I agree that some people take themselves and the questions posited here too seriously, but the idea that America holds a monopoly on this is simply incorrect.
Also, I would be remiss if I didn't extend a thanks for the pretension and elitism (the 2 major ingredients in your question), I was able to enjoy them with a fork... delicious.

I agree with that and I'm American. I'm only awake because I have to go to school in an hour. But I personally enjoy British humor... fire away.

I'm afraid I have to agree to some degree. I have asked a number of ironic questions and a few US folks took them entirely literally.
One even asked if English was my first language, which I thought was a bit cheeky, really.

That is so true, you can see some people just ask antagonistic questions just to see what answers people give, and i must say you can always tell which ones are the Yanks they get so PC about everything, lol!

It works both ways. Brits misunderstand a lot of American sayings, too.
