There are several reasons for this. Sometimes the folks just really like the decorations and don't want to see them put away. Others have friends or family who were not able to be home for the Holiday but will be there soon so they want to remain festive for them. Some families have had a family member die recently and to them keeping the decorations around longer is comforting to them. Then there are the folks who just keep putting off taking down the decorations because it seems like too much trouble to do so.

Hi !!! Happy New Year !
I live in Brasil in a city called São Paulo and here we set the Christmas Tree and decorate our homes and windows in December 6 and unset the tree in January 6 because of the wise men. It's a Brasilian tradition. We also start sending Christmas cards in the beginning of December. I still have my Xmas tree and decorations, but I have to be honest , to set the Tree is really fun and nice, I always do it with my family listening to Christmas songs, but to unset the Tree is not that fun... we have to wrap every ..I don't know exactly how to say it in English, but we have to wrap each of the decorations and put in the boxes so it will be easy for the next year to decorate again..so It's a little tiring.

Some people (like me) leave up our decorations until Christmas season is over. Advent is what leads up to Christmas, and Christmas season is what happens after. Ever heard of the 12 days of Christmas? We are anticipating the coming of the wise men to see Jesus.

Well some people just wait til the New Year's and take it down. Where Im from just about everyone does that. We do that but I wouldnt say laziness because thats not the case at all. I guess because NEW YEARS represents lights and colors and celebration so why not leave the tree up?

I suppose they leave it up because of the hassle of putting up and taking down the lights. Might as well have them on while they are up. If they are on before Thanksgiving or after New Years they are pushing the limits.

It breaks up the winter...after the decorations come down all we have to look forward to is snow and overcast skies....I keep them up until the end of January!

Maybe they haven't had time to take them down. I took mine down yesterday. We have always take the decorations down on New Years Day.
