The tops are magneti, if you apply a strong magnetic force it should pop the closure.
failing that yopu could try cutting or grinding off the fitting
failing that you could go down to the nearest dodgiest boozer you know and ask around if anyone has got a device for removing the tag... they do exist, how do you think the shop lifters get the gear out of the shops.
failing that you could ring up the store before hand and explain the position. if your sister paid by credit card the shop will have a record of the transaction they should be able to help. Id certainly agree anything with the shop before entering with the tag on, after al they could legitimately think you were nicking the goods if the tag goes off when you leave.

Did your sister pay for the top with cash or did she use a card coz it will be on her statement so this could be used as proof of purchase. If i worked in a shop and someone came in with a security tag on the top i would be suspicious and also wont you beep as you enter the shop as well.. some of those sec/tag do contain ink so i wouldnt pull it off, as suggested by someone else do you know anybody that works in a shop they could take it to work and remove the security tag for you. Good luck x!

Yes some tags to have a blue red and green ink cartridge inside them, most likely yours does because no alarm went off when you were leaving the store. Your best bet is to go back to the shop and explain why you threw out the receipt. Also it's the shops fault that they left the tag on not yours so they should'nt make you feel nervous about bringing it back.

I'd worry about your sister!! Did she really buy it ? No receipt! How did she get out of the shop without the alarm going off in the first place? Very suspicious! On the other hand if she did get out of the shop without the alarm going , it's probably not the only top that got through. Explain your situation to the shop assistant. Who's gonna bring back a top they stole anyway?

I work in a supermarket and all our DVD's have magnetic security locks. We flat out refuse to open DVD's that have accidentally not been unlocked at POS without proof of purchase..I mean, what is to stop someone (other than EAS tags, which not all of the DVDs have) from picking one up, putting it in a bag, and walking out with it?
If you're going to try the store-route, ring first and ask to speak to the store manager, other wise you will probably get some lowly pleb that will stick whole heartedly to the policy; the higher up the food chain you go, the more likely you are to find someone willing to wear the decision.

This happened to me once and now I examine every item before I leave the shop. I did feel silly going back to the shop, I even had receipt but it still made me feel uneasy.
Call them first and explain the situation, I am sure they will say it is OK that you go in and job done.
It is wrong they forget to remove the tag, but this things happen and I am sure you are not the first one in that shop.

You have to take it back. That is the only safe way to remove the tag. You could rip the garnment.. or, like someone else said.. it may contain dye which not only stains the garnment, it stains you, your carpet.. and anything else it touches. (not all of them SAY they have dye in them) Tell them the salesclerk didnt remove it. It happens all the time.. My dads a regional manager for sears, and on employee night my mom bought me a coat and gave it to my christmas morning.. he was mortified when I tried it on and told him they had forgotten to take the ink tag off. He said in retail they forget ALOT, and its actually a big problem because people try to get them off themselves, ruin the garnment.. then bring it in and demand a replacement. you shouldnt need proof of purchase, it was THEIR mistake, not yours. If they cause an issue, ask to speak with a manager.

If you know where she bought it from, just take into the shop and explain. At the end of the day, who the hell would return something they had stolen to the shop??? These things happen - it happened to me not long back, though I had the receipt. Am assuming innocent 'til proven guilty, and the fact it's been Christmas, will see you through - most shopkeepers/assistants are understanding enough aren't they?

They contain dye.
Take it back to the shop, they cant acuse you of theft if you didnt steal it plus they would have to see you steal it. Dont try and remove it, the tags are designed to be very messy, the dye is stored under pressure so it will go everywhere.
Good luck

take it back and go straight to the till so they definately cant think you may have just picked it up. if you cant get the reciept or a statement you could ask your sister for the date that she bought it and perhaps a rough time then give thios info to the store and they can trace the purchase on there computers
