I generally can;t stand the guy anymore but I still love Jerry Maguire and he did do a good job in it.

The Last Samurai. Hands down his finest work ever. His protrayal of the transition and gaining of understanding that a character in that position would go through was illuminating. Add to that the fact that he actually went to Japan and studied with sword master to learn the skills necessary for the film so that he could do as much of the actual fighting as he could shows a dedication to authenticity that most would have ignored. It is one of the few movies where the characters actually came alive from the screen and you were able to truly understand their plight, the conflict...and why they made the choices they made. All in all probably the best acting I have EVER seen from him....which is saying alot because I am definately NOT a big fan of his work....

The Last Samurai, because it was actually a good movie, unlike Top Gun, which I still can't understand why it was popular with such terrible camera work. It was the movie that made me respect Tom Cruise. Then he decided he was a scientoligest and I lost all respect.

Rain man!
I know autists and I think Dustin Hoffman was awful why Tom fulfils perfectly the role of the young brother!
And it is an understatement in both cases...
Now, it is honesty and not lust for best answer which makes me answer here!

"Eyes Wide Shut" is good but mostly because I like Kubrick.
Oliver Stone's "Born on the Fourth of July" would be my favorite all around.
"Vanilla Sky", "Jerry Maguire", and "Mission Impossible" (only number one) all get nods too.
I think he played a character best in "Collateral."
