It sounds like the Aurora Borealis,or "Northern Lights" (a disturbance in the upper atmosphere due to the interaction of solar particles with the Earth'smagnetic field). The display of lights can take many forms, and I have seen less spectacular versions that faded in and out rather than flashed. They can last for minutes to hours at a time. I'm surprised no-one else has suggested this. They are quite commonly seen in Scotland, and countries further north.

interesting! yet i do not agree. Having information like it truly is all very well and strong, inspite of the indisputable fact that it would not account for human being decision in any respect, and what you've defined because the actual traits of "white human beings" on your information isn't, in my adventure, perfect. The waist to hip ratio varies particularly throughout the global, as does the thickness of the hair and the colour of the exterior. saying that one race is extra appropriate than yet another is a ridiculous idea.

The military has flares it ties to parachutes that light up the night. Don't know what they are called. The ones I saw did not flash on and off.

Almost certainly lightening. Just because there was no thunder, doesn't mean it wasn't a storm.

Having seen something similar , I'd guess you were seeing ball lightning.
I'd be surprised if it was Aurora Borealis frankly, given your description.
