Faced with certain impeachment, Nixon resigned on August 9th, 1974, but before he did he chose Gerald Ford to take his place, He did this because he knew he could count on Ford to pardon him of all the charges that were pending against him. Fords first official act was to pardon Nixon. Ford was one of our worst presidents and did nothing , save make a fool of himself.

I don't believe Ford was such a fool as the babble went in his time. Now, I think it sometimes takes a "fool" to do just the right thing. As for the "worst" President, time will tell, chum. Got an idea or two 'bout that.

Best of luck

You really need to know what you are talking about before putting forth something like this. Ford got his job because Spiro Agnew had to resign as Vice President. He is the only Vice President and President appointed to the office. Far as the pardon of Nixon. That was needed to put the Watergate Scandal behind the American public and move the country forward. This way President Ford could address the many other important issues surrounding the country at that time. Some lines from the site below: There were the challenges of mastering inflation, reviving a depressed economy, solving chronic energy shortages, and trying to ensure world peace. The President acted to curb the trend toward Government intervention and spending as a means of solving the problems of American society and the economy. In the long run, he believed, this shift would bring a better life for all Americans. As President, Ford tried to calm earlier controversies by granting former President Nixon a full pardon. He may have not been the 'greatest' President but was the right man at the right time in America's history to handle the job. He healed the country.

Well take into consideration the era, the Country needed to heal and was not going too with the possible impeachment over our heads. It would have been catastrophic for our country if we had a impeachment for the first time in history, especially for something like that. We were at the closing of a war, economic crisis and this would have simply compounded the issue. I think he did the right thing. Why was Clinton let off so easily? the cigar issue was just the tip of the iceburg for him, what about the fact he Knew where Bin Lauden was and how much of a threat he was and still did nothing. I could go on and on, but I won't. Being a President is not a easy job, you get a lot of crap from the media these days that are just not true or misconstrued on purpose. You and I will never really know what happened, but know this; you will know what the media wants you to know and think whether it be tru or not.

Well considering Jimmy Carter pardoned a foreign assassin and Bill Clinton a murderer Nixon was nothing to pardon. Ford was a respectable man, non-charismatic but if you look past that he was a good thinker. If the Clinton's were not impeached Nixon should have never been impeached. Shame on the Democrats!

Yes, I think it was right for him to pardon Nixon. The country had already been through enough, with Vietnam and with Watergate.

Most historians today feel that Ford did the right thing.

Remember, too, that Ford also pardoned all the draft-dodgers who had fled to Canada during the Vietnam War.

But the people who criticize Ford for pardoning Nixon seem to forget about that other pardon.

Nixon wasn't impeached, and it was likely he wouldn't have been. The funny thing about the whole Watergate thing is simply that Nixon did almost none of what he is today accused of. The pardoning of Nixon was a good thing, it helped heal a breach in our country, and it let an innocent man get on with his life. Gerald Ford may have been many things, but a fool was NOT one of them.

the act was sad indeed, If you are innocent why would you accept a pardon? The main point was Impeachment was not likely...... the DNC is and was not a government agency only a private organization that promotes electable candidates. It was not illegal to spy on the DNC only the cover-up bred criminal activity.

first ask your self one little question,, exactly what the hell did President Nixon do in the first place, the only thing he did was to deny, he knew anything about the break in at democratic head quarters know as " water gate" and the only thing thy wanted was the democrats plans for the coming election, since all of them Dem's and Rep's have did the same thing at every election what is the big deal, " is it just that the Jewish news media blew it out of proportion, because he didn't want to be controlled by the Jewish cartel " so unless you are also Jewish what is your complaint?? B,T,W, what about Bill Clinton and his B/J he lied to congress and the senate, and a constitutionally appointed investigating committee, you conveniently forgot him why??

julia, sweetheart , carter was the one who pardoned the draft dodgers

shall we honor bill clinton who was also impeached? As a nation, we do not discriminate when it comes to full honors for a President of this wonderful country and it is right and fitting to do so.

If you read what people like Bob Woodward say about the pardon, your views will change I used to think like you until I learned more from trusted sources. It is not all black and white.
