Not ALL women are vain. Please don't generalize all of us into one category. It isn't fair to the ones who aren't vain. I am one of those that is not vain. I don't care if I look great or not, I don't wear makeup (can't), I wear sweats in the winter and don't care who sees me in them, I wear my hair as I like (usually in a ponytail) and don't care who does or doesn't like it like that, etc.
If you think that all women are vain, then you are hanging out with the wrong ones. I do have friends that won't go out until their hair and clothes are just right, but not me. I don't care what others think. Yes, there is a lot of pressure for women to 'look younger than they are,' etc. I already do look younger than I am (I am 42 and people say that I look like I in my 20s). I do try to cover up my gray hair, but so do most men. I believe that if there wasn't so much pressure from the media and from girls parents for them to look their best at all times, especially when they go out, and men didn't only go after those who look the prettiest, etc, then more women wouldn't be so vain. Look around. I bet you will find some women aren't that vain.

women are no more vain than men.
plus, men have a tendancy to look at a woman in the beginning for only her looks. think about it, a girl might have an awesome peronality, but you dont notice that until you start talking to her because you think shes hot.
women like to look nice, and while some are vain, some want to have a nice outward apperance so that people will be interested in getting to know them. you dont go out in public looking like trash and expecting people to notice you, do you?

It's true. Instead of revearing older women for their wisdom like in old times, there is a lot of pressure not to grow old. It's really sad. It deeply affects so many women psychologically. If society would stop demanding the fountain of youth effect then I think it would help women a lot. As for me, I'm going to grow old and be proud.

Simple. Looks are much more important to women because they depend on them so much. Attractive women are treated better, receive more attention, and can land a richer or more exciting significant other.
Note also the panic about the baby boomer generation aging. You'll see a bunch of articles about how "50 is the new 30" or similar garbage. They're all panicking to hold on to their looks rather than aging gracefully. This is most likely due to the fact that their generation prized youth above anything else, and the concept of growing old terrifies them.
It'll likely get worse in the near future.

It's biological, better looking women are more likely to get a successful and rich alpha male. Good looks in women show fertility and youth, which is what your average caveman is looking for when he wants to make babies.'
'It all goes back to the cavemen.'

Because society tells them to be. Older women are considered "hags". Who the hell wants to be a hag?
