The egg! Me and my friends made up our own thoery. Two different specied dinosaurs had sex, thus the female laying the egg, when it cracked, a mutated dinosaur came out - the chicken!
Because let's not forgot, birds are part dinosaurs.

neither. the decendant (probably dinosaurs) layed egg, but really neither the egg nor the chicken started the never ending life cycle
