Last night (news years day, about 5:30pm) my girlfriend and I were driving home, on a long and lonesome road, when out of no where a flash and an amazing bright white light from the treetops. I witnessed it appear from a circle of white light that immediately completely engulfed our surroundings in a white light - but only for a split second, and then blackness.
we want to know more about what it may have been, as it was a white light, was it lightning? there was no thunder, and no more lightning followed. no flames of burning trees. just darkness.
if it was an electrical pylon and not lightning, would it have been more blue or purple?
about a 1 mile on, we then drove into a very heavy rain storm, which only lasted for about 2 miles.
i don't think we were abducted...

i was only jesting about the abduction! used to read Fortean Times when i was younger...
turns out, a work colleague who lives about 4/5 miles from the incident said there was a single rumble of thunder - and no more.
we have concluded that i must have been at the point of grounding for the lightning...

As it rained, I think it was a lightning. U guys didn't hear anything because u were may be too much worried about those flashes. And if it was an electrical pylon then the flash would be a bit purplish. It may also be an UFO. Well, I'm not really sure, I hope I was there to see that. I suggest u to ask anyone within that very area, everything that actually happened that night within that area. Don't worry, u'll soon find out all ur answers. nAf :-)

Do you have new glasses that you're not used to? Do you have migraines afterwards. Many types of migraines are preceded by an "aura" that oftentimes come as a strange smell or strange sights. If neither of the above is true, I would go see a doc right away and ask for a referral to a neurologist for testing, maybe an EMG or MRI to look for any abnormal brain function, especially in your visual cortex or anything pressing on your optic tracts (the nerves that conduct sight to your brain). Consistent twice a day flashes are a bit worrisome. An ophthalmologist (not optometrist. Ophthalmologists have MD degrees, optometrists have OD degrees) may also know what's going on as this can also be some retinal diseases. Your primary care will know who is the best to refer you to. Good luck!

I think it was lightning, from that small thunderstorm you saw. The color would say that it was NOT a transformer. I suspect the lightning hit a tree and may have come from the other side, out of a low cloud. So you never saw a long streak of lightning. Lightning doesn't always set the tree on fire, in fact, rarely does it do that.
The long streak of lightning might very well have been obscured by the clouds which produced the heavy rain.

There are many possible explanations for the light you saw all of them perfectly reasonable. Transformer/ lightening/ fireworks even someone messing around.
The one explanation that is totally unfeasible is that you had an encounter with aliens/UFOs.
You had a strange experience which is not readily explainable with the facts at your disposal. It is a complete nonsense to then conclude that because this experience is not easily explainable that therefore you have had an encounter with little green men from the planet Krypton.
The transformer/ lightening/ fireworks explanation have a basis in what is scientifically known. The alien abduction theory has no basis in anything other than fairy tails or comic books.

sound like a transformer blew up. I've seen it before.and it's bright white before it bursts into flames. It's also New Years Day. Could have been a roman candle stuck in a tree. Chances are it was an observer ship from another galexy. Iv'e seen alot of these also. The bright light is from their mind camera. They record your thoughts and vision for studying back home.

It was probably just a transformer blowing, but could have been ball lightening or _____ . I leave the last to your own devising.
Transformers can light up the whole sky when they go and can be seen for miles.

You may of had an encounter. It depends on your beliefs. If you believe in UFO's it could of well been. I've seen things while stationed in Arizona and something like that wouldn't surprise me one bit. If you were abducted there should of been a time change and if not, seek out a hypnotist. Many supposed inductees have gone and relived their abduction through hypnotism. Hope it helps.
PS. Watch some documentary's on UFO's and compare them with your experience if you want to really get into it....
