Move over young bucks because "Archon" is my favorite strategy game of all time!
A game that is been phrased Chess on Steroids is more in depth than you may think.
Archon pits light side pieces against dark side pieces. Unlike chess where the attacking move takes the piece, the game switches to a battleground and the pieces fight to the death. You have full control over banshees, knights, sorcerers, and shape-shifters!
The board is devised of a chess environment on a 9 x 9 board, however some spots on the board shift from light to dark. Where the strategy is involved is pieces that are dark pieces that reside on dark tiles, are stronger in battle. They also can heal faster when it's white's turn to attack them in later turns. The same deal goes for white pieces as well. Each team also Sorcerer or Wizard, that can revive pieces from the dead, cast Elementals to strengthen an Army, or imprison other pieces from moving.
There are multiple ways of winning the game, obviously total annihilation of all pieces however it is extremely difficult with skilled players, or the strategic element of capturing 5 squares on the board, that consist of power squares. They are essential in winning in Archon and knowing when to make a move for these pieces with wizards or banshees can make up all the difference in the game.
Perhaps one day a souped up version will be released again for PC, until then R.I.P Archon!

For a long time it was Starcraft (while I was in highschool some years back), after that came Command & Conquer Generals. Now it is Heroes 5. :)

crudely we all lie and play people at some point.
Game wise for fun...I like mastermind...Cluedo is good for kids...monopoly later and RISK for to attain the feeling of power!
