It does sound as though you could have an infection. Given the symptoms you describe, either a yeast infection or a urinary tract infection is possible. If you don't feel *generally* bad, and if you've been scratching, the burning at urination could be the result of urine (which is rather salty and acid) burning the irritated areas, so my first guess is a yeast infection. I think that I would try an over-the-counter yeast infection treatment (something like Monistat or Gyne-Lotrimin); ordinary mineral oil can help soothe the itch until the medication has time to take effect.
If that doesn't work fairly quickly (many work in 1 to 3 days), then you should get to your doctor to be examined for a urinary tract infection, which usually requires treatment with antibiotics.
Many women get yeast infections if they've recently been taking broad-spectrum antibiotics, which sometimes kill the "good" bacteria that ordinarily would keep the yeast in check. If you've recently been taking antibiotics, that would be another clue that you have a yeast infection.
Either way, neither yeast infections nor bladder infections are serious as long as you don't let them get out of hand. I promise that your doctor has seen more vaginas than he/she can count; one more is going to be about as remarkable to your doctor as seeing a nose on somebody's face, so don't sweat the exam if you do end up needing one.
Good luck!

The discharge is usually from a yeast infection...no uncommon or serious but needs to be taken care of. You might be able to by some over the counter medication for it without going to the doctor. The other thing is a kidney infection that causes the burning. Drink lots and lots of water and cranberry juice to get rid of that. If that doesnt work, go to a Urologist. He just takes a sample of urine and determines the cause....no poking around.
Then he'll just give you some pills......dont...do not let them tell you that a minor surgical procedure is necessary....they say that only to make extra money, when a prescription will do. Drinking cokes, milk and other juices is not the same as water. Lack of drinking water usually causes a kidney infection.

I would just wait until the symptoms of the yeast infection is gone......that infection can be passed on. Believe it or not, my grandson (he's 16 months) got a yeast infection from strong antibiotics he was on. His little balls swelled up like golf balls and he had a horrible rash. Males can get it too......just wait until the symptoms are gone and then you should be okay. BEEN THERE ON MANY OCCASIONS - UNFORTUNATELY.

Sweetie, you have to see a healthcare professional of some sort.
If it's a Urinary Tract Infection, you'll be glad you went sooner rather than later, as they get really uncomfortable.
Tell the healthcare worker your concerns about them and I am sure they'll be extra careful.
Call today. You can call Planned Parenthood of you don't have a doctor.
