It depends on what class of women you are interested in. The more affluent ones wore very restrictive clothes that looked extremely elegant but must have been sheer torture. The lower orders wore less uncomfortable garb as they had to work, and stays and fripperies would have been totally impractical. However since washing facilities were elementary and roads barely better than dirt tracks, those long skirts must have been permanently dirty.Still they needed the skirts, petticoats and drawers to keep the cold at bay, as heating facilities were limited, though those who had to accompany their husbands to the far outposts of the Empire must have sweltered in places like India and Africa.
Our modern way of dress is far less attractive, but liberating and
more suitable to present day conditions. Pity modern textiles show every bulge, evry knicker elastic, and that some women do not realise how ridiculous they look wearing what is tantamount to glorified underwear thinking that it makes them more attractive.

It's beautiful, part of me wishes we still dressed that way. But I also know the reality of it, which is how painful those corsets were (women actually developed problems with their intestines because of the binding-and can you imagine the bruising?), how hot it must have been (especially if you lived in the southern U.S.-good lord! No wonder they were fainting all the time!) I love the Victorian Era for it's literature, poetry and art (the Pre-Raphaelites are my favorite) but I would not have wanted to live back then.

Very authentic but you need a charge number for the amount of time to undress a woman in such gear

I'm sure they must have been very uncomfortable to wear but speaking from a male perspective its a shame they went out of fashion.

I think they make women look so sexy and demure.

Beautiful, elegant (if you're thinking of the upper-middle to upper class style of dress), but very restrictive, hot, and uncomfortable...

It's ok if you want to wear a breath-restricting corset, not be able to move properly, or even bend down without fainting. Other than that, you can keep it.

Elegant and beautiful for a lady, but a nightmare to work in.
