I am unable to connect to my ISP through dial up connection. When I click on the icon for connecting to ISP, I can hear the dial tone but ISP's number is not dialled by the system, with the result that after some time, no connection is established. What can be the possible cause and solution? Thanks in advance.

Go into Network Connections in Control Panel, right-click on the icon representing your connection and click properties. On the General tab, in the section labelled Phone Number, type the phone number. It can usually be found by calling the ISP's tech support line or their website.

It is very simple. Go to control panel and network connections. Right-click the icon you use to dial and select default. Double click on the dial up connection icon. Untick the box save password and re enter all your details. then re tick the box again

Crosscheck the mode of dialing as setup for the modem... pulse or tone.
