I bought a ticket and paid for it by a credit card in CA; within a few minutes, I realized I could not make it to the flight so I cancelled my ticket. The operator who did both transactions told me that my money has been refunded to my credit card but couldn't give me a reciept confirming that. I'm woindering if there is a law in the US, or CA, requiring each party to provide reciepts for the amounts they have charged/refunded the other parties.

There is what is called a Statute of Frauds that requires contracts to be in writing if they involve sale of goods over $500.00 and other types of transactions, none of which really fit your situation. Receipts are usually provided for purchases of any and all kinds, but refunds are less often recorded in writing and provided to the recipient of the refund. If you do not see the refund on your credit card within 3 weeks, you can call the airline and demand that you be refunded, explain that the clerk told you she had performed the refund in your presence, and report it to the Better Business Bureau (BBB). I think you will see your refund.
