Do you mean, how do you quote a piece of research that you've read about in another textbook? If so, in psychology we use the american Psychological association (APA) format (harvard format is very similar). When writing an essay, you would write:

Craik and Lockhardt (1972; Cardwell, Clark and Meldrum, 2005).*

If a book/research paper is written by many people, you list all the names when you first reference it in an essay. After that, you can substitiute the other names for et al (and others). E.g.

Craik and Lockhardt (1972; Cardwell et al, 2005) or even Craik et al (1972; Cardwell et al, 2005).

In your reference section, you just list what you actually read. E.g.

Cardwell, M, Clark, L and Meldrum, C (2005). Psychology for A-Level (3rd ed.). London, UK: Harper Collins Ltd.

Hope this helps!
