Why must we provide truth if we have to swear to tell the truth. The whole process of swearing to tell the truth if ur gonna have to provide evidence for the truth is stupid. agree?

Not quite sure what you're getting at here?

Swearing to tell the truth commits the witness to do so in a legally binding contract with the court and therefore to then lie in court becomes a breach of that contract - ie perjury.

By removing the swearing process, you remove any form of a contract (although most people would say that it is implicit that you tell the truth in a court of law) and allow anyone to lie without legal redress.

You misunderstand the legal process as practised in most western democracies. It is not for the witness to 'provide evidence for the truth', but merely to tell the facts, truthfully, as he or she knows them. It is then for counsel to point the court/jury to how that evidence supports the contention for which it is is adduced. Some jurisdictions will not allow the unsupported testimony of one witness. The evidence that a certain set of facts happened must be taken from the testimony of at least two individuals

well if i understand you correctly...the process do seems to be stupid if you have to swear and provide evidence for the same...but the swearing might put moral pressure on the person not to lie...i guess!
