Rover is over.

It WAS an English car company that made mediocre cars and really nice but somewhat outdated SUVs.

BMW bought the Range/Land Rover brand and as of 2001 (I think) Ford owns this brand.

Rover as an independent English car company no longer exists and as far as I know there are no longer cars build with the Rover name, only SUV's now.

It was an English car company that went bust about 2 years ago and closed down.
It used to manufacture land rover and range rover, apart from the rover sedan. But land& Range rover were bought by BMW.

It was a pretty well known English Car company that tried to come to India with the sunlight/sipani group with the Rover Montego. The company merged with MG cars, but without much success. The company and Brand was sold to BMW (very few of the original UK car brands still belong to UK companies). BMW probably put these assets on sale too, because the assets of both MG Rover Group and its engine producer, Powertrain Limited were sold to Nanjing Automobile (Group) Corporation in 2005

BUT in terms of cars ROVER was a British automobile manufacturer and later a marque based at the Longbridge plant in Birmingham. In recent years it was part of the MG Rover Group. However, in April 2005, production stopped when the company became insolvent. In July 2005 the Nanjing Automobile Group acquired the assets, with plans to resume production in China, and possibly also at Longbridge, in 2006. On September 18, 2006 Ford bought the rights to the Rover name from BMW for approximately £6 million. [1] Ford had acquired an option of first refusal to buy the Rover brand as a result of its purchase of Land Rover from BMW in 2000. Rover also imports cars from TATA CAR MANUFACTURING COMPANY IN INDIA and sells them in UK by rebadging and calling it CITY ROVER instead of tata indica.
