I'm not insulting Sephiroth. I'm a fan of his, but I wanted to know why everyone (of course not EVERYONE but alot of people.) thought he was(is) a great villain. Just to repeat, I don't wnt any insults to Sephiroth. If you don't like him, don't answer.

I appreciate the answer, and it was a good answer, I just want to make sure it is clear I'm talking about his character and not fighting aginst him in any game.

"Just me" is an example of the people I was talking about. And no, she couldn't.

During the era of Final Fantasy VII, among the many RPGs prevailed, a lot of the antagonists are brute, unsophisticated, and just plain simple -everything is purely Black and White in the manner of psychologically speaking (Protagonist -> handsome, Antagonist -> ugly).

Now we are presented by Square a character named Sephiroth.
At that time, he is perhaps the most beautiful Antagonist ever created in the history of Final Fantasy.

In fact, many will argue that he is way better than Cloud himself in all manner of speaking (in Physical appearance, Intelligence, and Strength).

This daring move is a huge leap in the history of gaming (Although, it has been done many times in other form of arts).
Final Fantasy VII satisfies many thru its androgenous quality from its character (with exception of Red, Caith-sith, and Barreth).

Sephiroth's antagonistic quality is enhanced through out the game by his mental deteriorations.
Setting apart our view of him as a standard Final Boss.

Before FFVI (kefka), we pretty much expect that the antagonist is just an evil guy with selfish ambition to rule the world (A very cliche characteristic in RPGs).

Sephiroth and Kefka, on the other hand, basically just want to destroy everything.
(that is why Kefka can also be argued as the greatest villain apart from Sephiroth -but, anyway, i digressed)

And Square did a really good job introducing his progression to that point for us.
In such a manner that we are somewhat feel identified with him.
We want to hate him because he's the meanie..
but, yet, we feel pity for him.. and we can understand why he
behaves in such way.

i dare to say that Sephiroth, perhaps, plays both role as the villain and as the victim we are desperately trying to save.

and i am sorry to say.. One of the purposes of why Aerith have to die in the game, viewed in the story writing directives, is to serve as a gear for us to tip the balance of viewing Sephiroth slightly more as the villain.

A VERY INTERESTING twist indeed.

I think he is an awseome villian he has a mysterious affect that makes his next move so hard to predict that its kinda scary. And the fact that he is a seasoned villian I guess you could say makes his powers stonger which makes hima harder Character to beat.
