How do you interpret this poem:

Once as a patron of war
Attacked by power and greed
Life stolen
Taken away
Never to be returned
But the memory remains unserved.

Once as a believer
Prosecuted for uniqueness
Burning, flames engulfing,
Torture, life made worthless
Said to be no more than dirt
Yet faith remains.

Once as a pure one,
In a city of filth
Watching loved ones
Dying, rotting
Sitting helplessly
But the affected remained gone.

Once as a lover
Filled with joy and harmony
Closeness and fulfillment
Screaming, begging, reaching out
Losing grip, blackness,
Yet the truly loved remain forever protected

we are who we are
we fight, though we know death may arise
we believe, amongst the influences around
we are loyal and pure, so that we'll keep alive
we love, inspite the hurt, without expecting in return
as long as the loved one is happy.

actually, for me, it's almost a love poem.
it's like the writher of this poem is trying to say to his/her loved one that "i will love you forever, even though you dont love me back, no matter what, i will always be here for you"
