I don't like it. If the sibling did not request the photos and was not given notice that the photos of the casket viewing would be sent, then it is inappropriate and shocking and damaging. However, if someone told the sibling that the photos would be mailed and the sibling said "well, alright," or something of the sort, then it seems harmless. It is inappropriate to just surprise and elderly person with photos of a casket viewing, and pictures are not usually taken.

If these are photos of the deceased post mortem, I would not recommend sending them without the sibling's specific request. Such photos may be upsetting to some people. Pictures of the deceased in life would be welcomed, however.

Wrong. The elderly sibling who lives close enough to be able to attend the funeral himself /herself may have reasons not to come.
Its not only wrong, it was tacky. You have to question the thinking of the person who took pictures and sent them. What is the motive? What was it they hoped to accomplish?

If they don't want pics, don't send pics. Maybe they're in denial, and need time to accept the loss. The pics will still be around later. Maybe they didn't like that relative, and just want to forget they ever lived.
It isn't your place to be the pic-sender if you're not asked.

I never understood taking pictures of dead people. I don't care how much I love someone I don't want to remember then that way. I wouldn't take pictures, nor send them.

yes it is definiteky wrong. it might just trigger the depression that your relative is experiencing. but if they demand it, then go on. and when you send it, just post a prayer along with the photo ;)

I think it is completely wrong and creepy! Why not just send pics of the person when he or she was happy and living?

not if they didn't request it, tell them you have pictures if they are interested in having them and than send them. and it is not creepy at all, i took pictures of my brothers grave to take with me when i moved to the US years ago, it sort of makes you feel a bit closer, it's not like you gonna frame them and hang up on a wall............but honestly, please ask them first else it might freek them out if you just send them like that.
good luck
