My ancestral backgrounds are: Dutch (Friesland)-50%, my other half is French-Canadian,Cree & Chippawa Native American Indian. I think it is very important to know where we came from. It helps us know who we are, and why we think the way we think everyday. Alot of Americans should look into thier ancestry and try to preserve a small piece of where thier fore-father came from and why.------just my opinion.

French, we can trace our family back to 16th Century in Montauban (Tarre et Garrone), where the chateau is still standing. They were nobility and used the prefix "de" in front of the surname. They were Huguenots and therefore were kicked out by Louis 13 in the 1600s. The family status was recognised by the English monarchy and they were later made Baronets, this branch has now died out but we still carry the family name and crest.
