do female bass players make bands more interesting? would you pick a great female bass player over a male bass player who has the same amount of skill?

Yes without a doubt. I knew a female bass player with a well known local band and she not only had the talent to be a as good as anyone else in the band, she also could sing which is a plus for any band.

I personally don't care as long as they're good... but you can see how they add a little balance to a male band.
I would always pick the better bassist for a band, but if the guitarist was superb, sometimes less is more with the bass-playing and may feel inclined to hire a chilled out female bassist rather than some supercharged male bassist. All depends on what kind of music the band is playing, I suppose.

I think its really awesome to see girls/ladies playing instruments, or those who are in the line of duty. For me, it will be great to pick a female bass player, but you have to consider whats best for the band. If its calls for a male player, then so be it!....:)

You'd probably pick whoever you got on best with. I would personally pick a female because I would want to be in an all girl band as they are so rare. I suggest you do not join whichever band you speak of but start your own all girl band. Yeah! The real challenge of course is finding a good female drummer....

No Female has EVER played Bass as good as the Very Male Les Claypool. The bassist for Steven Malkamus and the Jicks is pretty good though.

i would personally choose a female bassist if i had the choice of picking either a male or female (with same skill) because then you'd have more perspective on songwriting, which you can tell when listening to bands like The Pixies, Sonic Youth and My Bloody Valentine.

a good question, i really dont know why but female bass players are so sexy without exeption. and yes i do believe that they make the band more interesting.
and strange but true, I'd surely pick the female bass player

well, it's not a problem.
in my school, there's a band run by girls only.
an in my country, there's some famous bands(they are not internationally known though) that use female bassist. A female bassist also taken by an all star band of my country.
