Why is it that we are taught not to discuss religon or politics in public? Why is it that disagreeing with someone is considered a personal attack? Regardless of what side of the political spectrum you fall on, you cant learn anything without a good, clean, honest debate... Why cant we disagree in a civil manner at all?

ok, say facts arent even the issue, say you are in a debate of personal opinion, why cant we understand that other people feel different ways about things and just have a good discussion about it, why do we resort to personal attacks?

very true, I have a cousin who is a rabid conservative. I had to promise not say anything that would start a debate this Christmas, no matter what she said. Facts are very disturbing to her.......

Argument w/out factual statement is just contradiction. No it isn't....yes it is, that kind of thing.Kinda like Monty python's "argument clinic"

Maybe it's because I am older now but I love a good debate no matter the subject. but have to admit politics is my fovorite, I do try and bring facts to the table when I take a side. But it's hard to debate some of the people on here that just rant and rave about whatever. Or throw out heavy accusations without any back up. But I try. lol Some answers on here are great! I have learned from some of you. I guess in everything we have to take the good with the bad. Or is it the honest from the ignorant.

We can, unfortunately there are alot of people that just want to attack the other side with BS instead of an honest debate. Too many on YA that want to just throw out hateful comments. That only deepens the divide and stops the willingness to listen to each other. I also believe there are a lot of kids on here that just spout what they hear other kids say and do not research anything for themselves. Peer pressure to say what is popular.

Because Americans rely more on rhetoric instead of facts. If people don't know the facts all the argument in the world won't solve anything and the conclusions will be cloudy, at best.

Discussing religion in public!!! CALL THE ACLU SEND THEM TO JAIL!!!

As for discussing politics, its ok, but you could offend someone with your view and that is also a crime.

If you already know you are right, then there is no reason to listen.

Lemmings are the same way.
