i got all 4 of them surgically removed at one time....just be careful what you eat (and how you eat), and take your pain pills the way you're supposed to when you need them....you'll be fine!

Its something that dentists/orthodontists tell a majority of people. When your wisdom teeth come in they cram into the spaces left in the back of your mouth. They are harder to take care of (hard to floss back there), and on many people (especially those who wear braces) it will mess up years of work on that beautiful straight smile. Believe me, you don't want a a root canal on a wisdom tooth. It costs $$$ because you have to have a special surgeon work back there.

My orthodontist prepared for the wisdom teeth by removing four of my other teeth when I was a kid before I got braces. They gave me laughing gas and I actually watched them do the surgery. I didn't feel anything. It sounded a little gross when they cracked the teeth to remove them. When it was over, my face felt HUGE and was completely numb. Someone drove me home and I was out for the rest of the day (sleeping). Every couple of hours I was given whatever drug they gave me. I think it was Tylenol with codiene, but who knows what they will give these days. It took about one day for the worst of the pain to go away, then it was sore for a good week (before I could get back to chewing solid foods.) The stitches that I got were the kind that dissolve on their own.

One thing that you do have to watch out for is a "dry socket" - there is a link attached below for info.

I got two of my three wisdom teeth out.
One grew in when I was in my teens, and they took it out because the one under it didn't exist, so there would never be a surface for it to chew against, and my mouth didn't really have much room for it.
One grew in when I was in my 20's, but it took a long time coming in, and by the time the second half of the top of it grew through the gum, it had developed a cavity (from staying half under the gum, where I guess some little particles of food got trapped). They took it out to make it easier to look after the back molars.
Now I'm in my thirties, and my last wisdom tooth is coming through the gum. It hurts a bit. I know this one will have to be surgically removed because it's caught against the back molar and can't come in any further at the angle it's on.

The first two were easy as pie to get out cuz they'd already grown in (they just cut around the edge of the gum, grabbed on and pulled them out, done in about two minutes.) This last one will probably have to be broken and excavated from inside the gum and jaw bone. OUCH.

An oral surgeon took mine out. They put me to sleep with gas and cut the teeth out. Next thing I knew, I felt really drunk and was being walked out to my mom's car.

Pain: It didn't really hurt until I has slept on the side of my head for a few hours afterwards. Even then, I only took half a prescribed pain pill. The worst part was being home from college for a week and not being able to eat homemade food because it was still sensitive.

I did. I stayed awake and just got numbed. It was awful. If you can sleep through it, do that. I could hear the teeth cracking and breaking and everything. Oh, it was awful. I wanted to cry. Get put to sleep.

Afterward it was not bad at all. I think I slept for about a day because of the pain meds and then I was fine.

I had all 4 of my Wisdom teeth surgically removed at one time (and yes, I was hospitalized for the procedure). You have to be very careful of what you eat, and there will be swelling for several days. Remember to take the medication for pain, and to keep your mouth as clean as possible ... brush your teeth, etc.

I got all 4 taken out at once...I was pain free right afterward but developed an infection later...antibiotics and more painkillers helped a ton.

Having the suckers taken out was a piece of cake compared to the toothaches I had BEFORE they were removed! You'll be a new person after you get those out, I mean it!

I HAD ALL FOUR OF MINE OUT WHEN I WAS 16. (I'M 31 NOW)

THE TWO IN THE TOP WERE EASY, BUT THE ONES IN THE FAR BACK HAD TO BE DUG OUT. I WAS AWAKE THE ENTIRE TIME AND I FELT PULLING AND HEARD THE CRACKING, BUT THERE WAS NO PAIN. THE ONLY PAIN I FELT WAS FROM THE SHOT IN MY GUMS TO NUMB MY MOUTH. AFTER WARDS I HAD A MOUTH FULL OF GAUZE AND WAS ON SOME PRETTY STRONG PAINKILLERS THAT I TOOK AROUND THE CLOCK. BY THE TIME THE PAIN PILLS WERE GONE, SO WAS THE PAIN.

OVERALL, THE EXPERIENCE WASN'T BAD FOR ME.
TRY NOT TO WORRY. I'M SURE TIMES HAVEN'T CHANGED THAT MUCH. I'M SURE YOUR DOCTOR WILL TAKE GREAT CARE OF YOU AND GIVE YOU ADEQUATE PAIN CONTROL SO YOU WILL BE COMFORTABLE. JUST DON'T TAKE YOUR PAIN MEDS TOO FAR APART! TAKE THEM ON SCHEDULE EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT HURTING. IF YOU WAIT UNTIL THE PAIN IS INTENSE, IT WILL TAKE LONGER FOR THE MEDS TO TAKE AFFECT.

BEST WISHES TO YOU!

I got all four of mine taken out on the same day. It wasn't so bad. I did not go completely under, though.

Make sure you ice, ice, ice it for a full day or so when you get home. You shouldn't have much swelling. My boss didn't believe I had all four of mine pulled; you could hardly tell.

I had 2 on the bottom. No problems what so ever. After the anesthesia wore off after a nap. I was up cleaning my house. Never had any of the problems they talked about that could happen. I would worry too much about it.
