I attached a shredder on top of a kitchen waste basket with a garbage bag in it. I placed the waste basket right by the front door. When I come in I go thru the mail right by the front door. The only thing that makes it in my house is what I want to keep; everything else is shredded right by the front door.

special greeting cards may get put out to see for a while, junk mail is tossed instantly, and the bills are filed until the day to pay them. unless its a letter that must be filed, like a notice from a legal firm or something, then thow it away, chop up any credit cards that come in the mail that you arent going to use or someone else will find them and try to use them. dont let the junk build up, its a fire hazzard.

Destroy anything with your name, address & any account #'s. Also I've been sending postcards to the companies and request them to remove my name from their mailing list & not to share it with other companies. By law, they must comply with the request. I keep a list of all the companies I've sent the request to; it takes them 2-3 months to process. Be sure to tape the label they use to the postcard to show them what's on their records.

In my area of Michigan we have recycling but if you don'[t have that there, invest in a small shredder and feed it into that before throwing it out in the garbage to protect your identity on anything you throw out.
