Get a home router, one with both wifi and ethernet ports. Plug the broadband into the router, the desktop also into the router, and get wifi for the laptop. Basically.

3 ways:
via wire: get a cross over lan cable or 10/100 cable.plug it in both computers eithernet port.Go to network connections, select your connection, right click go to properties and select tcp/ip.click properties. set the ip address to 192.168.1.1 and subnet mask should come automatically wehn you exit, save it.
Go to other computer same deal, and put ip address as 192.168.1.2.
make sure you disable the firewall and set it accordingly to these 2 systems.
Or you can go for a wireless.again you can get the router or just a normal usb wireless stick, place it in your desktop.
Create a AD HOC network and connect the laptop to the desktop's ad hoc mode wireless connection, then make sure yoiu have enabled file and internet sharing on the desktop.
Configure the firewall accordingly.
Atleast give me the best answer, it will incerase my score a little bit.Thankyou bye bye, for more info contact me via email.

You should get a Wireless-G notebook adapter for your laptop. In case you're curious, Wireless-G is an improved version of Wireless-B. Wireless-G operates at a 2.4 GHz frequency. Then if the desktop is wireless-enabled, you can network the 2 with a router.

Depends. Wireless is nice for a laptop. Thatb would depend if your laptop has wireless or if you will need a cardand if your router is wireless already or if you will need to upgradeit in some way. The cheapest is probably just get an ethernet cable and plug in, unles you're already setup and just need to connect.

just get a switch.. go to a computer store and ask them for a muti switch for your network cable.. its a little box that you can plug into your modem and have more than one port that you can plug your desktop and labtop in together.. wireless is nice but i always ended up plugging directly into the modem because its sketchy to say the least using wireless at home works sometimes and doesnt other times. yes you could get a router but they are a pain and this makes it easier to use just plug and use.
