try lemon juice. it cleans brass, silver and copper. take a little container of lemon juice and soak it and then use an old toothbrush with soap and lemon brush the pieces. then wash in cold water and dry. you can try it several times until it gets clean.

You might want to ask a jeweler. You don't want to scratch or remove anything that shows their age. Take one in with you ask.
