India is a country which has history from BC 5th Century. India is physically 7th largest country and second largest in terms of population.
Indian can be divided into Aryan and Dravidian. Aryan lives in North Indian main land whereas Dravidian live in Indian Subcontinent. India is diversified in terms of various languages (totally we speak about 750 languages but only 15 is offical languages and English and Hindi are national languages). India is one of the famous and safe tourist destination world wide. Only you have take precautionary mesures.
1. Avail a valid Visa to visit India
2. Get medical checkup
3. If you are from cold country dont visit India in March, April, May unless otherwise it is necessary. The temp can raise up to 45 to 48 D C
4. In all cities and tourist places you can manage with English. if you are visiting remote places do keep some local guide with you
5. Lonely Planet is the best guide for India but dont beleave word by word
6. Billions of web pages available regarding India her cities as well as culture
7. Country is vast North to South it is 4000 Kms and East to West it is 3000 Kms hence plan in detail
8. Travel only by Train to enjoy your trip but only in AC compartment you will not Begger and other hassels. Three type of AC is 1st 2nd and 3rd Class
9. Dont smoke in public most of the places smoking in public is illegal and banned in trains and railway station

I have met an Indian. She was from India. We really didn’t say too much because she didn’t speak English well but she did tell me that the jewels in their foreheads establish ranking in their family.

The answer given by El_loco is wrong. I find that most of the white people whom I pass through in india on streets and market places smell so bad that I feel like vomitting.

i lived in london for 2 1/2 years. because of it's diverse society i've met people from different races, cultures and religions. from what i've expereinced with them they're people. meaning, you can't prejudge anyone, even indians.
always remember that politeness goes a long way. respect them and they will surely respect you too.
