The triggers are where your index fingers rest on the controller.
If you hold your controller correctly, tilt the controller towards you, so the front comes up. Now you should see the triggers.

If you have an Xbox 360 they are labeled "LT" and "RT" for "Left Trigger" and "Right Trigger"
