I have alot of dishes that were sitting unwashed for a month when I went on vacation. I come back and I wash them and I want to bleach them
How much clorox do I use compared to water.

Someone said use a capful for every galloon.
well I tossed them all into a 10 gallon container and I cant really even smell the clorox with 10 capfulls.

Is that right?

I would put fill the sink with hot soapy water and a capful of bleach. Then I would let the dishes soak for a few minutes. If I was you I would put on some rubber gloves. The bleach gives you hands a funny smell and takes a while for it to go away. But this will kill the germs. If you are going to use a 10 gallon bucket, I would look on the bottle to see. You do not want to use some much that you can smell it. A little goes a long way. With the dishes in hot soapy water this alone will kill the germs. So don't feel that you have to gag on the smell of bleach for it to work.

Right, you really dont need to SMELL the bleach to know its working. It kills all germs regardless. Just don't use more than a capful per gallon, it can make you sick. Use gloves when washing the dishes in bleach or your hands will peel.

When bleach is mixed with water and other chemicals including oils, blood ect, from food it can actually lose some of it's disinfecting power. For your dishes a regular anti-bacterial dish soap would do the job just fine.

it doesnt take a lot, after soaking take them out and wash in the sink , mom always put a spoon full of clorox in the sink and it helped keep the dishcloth from getting dingy too and helped keep the sink cleaner as well, it was white porcelain.

Well, if you have a dishwasher, most dishwasher detergent already contains bleach. So, just wash normally.
