Is 271.8 right?

It's been a while since I've done these.

yes

2.718 x 10^2
2.718 x 100 move the decimal two spaces to the right
271.8

*Remember, when you have an exponent greater than 0 with the base as 10, you move the decimal the same number of spaces as the value of the exponent to the RIGHT.
When you have a 0 for your exponent it equals 1 (right?)< When you have a negative (or is it fractional exponents?) answer you move that many number of spaces as the exponent to the LEFT.

Yes...

It's a simple tip by my teacher:
if the power of 10 is positive, just move the period the number of power to the right:
Ex.
5.89 x 10^6 = 5890000
But if it's negative, move the period to the left.
Ex.
5.89 x 10^-6 = .00000589

if you need an equation,
Ex.
10^3 = 10 x 10 x 10
I don't know when it's negative... sorry.
