It wouldn't cease to exist. It would have to find another source of revenue. The U.S. provides a large percentage of its operating expenses. Basically, it would be just like the League of Nations right after WW1. Lots of talk and no substance. Or is that the UN today?

No, I think the UN would move to Geneva, Switzerland, a truly neutral country. I think nations like Venezuela would gain access on the security council and attempt to isolate the US in many different areas--politically, free trade pacts/commercially, and diplomatically. The US needs to remain engaged because we are a superpower, and we can't isolate ourselves from the world. The UN would become a hot bed of anti-American activity, more so then it is today.

Good question.
Technically it would still exist, as not all decisions made by the UN need every seat to vote. However the UN would not have the power to make decisions of a serious or permanent nature.

All that would have to happen is that we'd lose our veto in the security council. Then the rest of the security council could vote to war against the US.

Isolating themselves from the rest of the world was key in the downfall of the USSR. The UN is far from perfect, but part of the beauty of it is that it is so impotent--everyone can talk but nothing gets done. It's better than an orgainzation that would take control of the governments of the world. Simply walking out would leave the rest of the world to unite for their interests, and lose our ability to stop them from using the UN's legitamacy to justify them.

Well it may not cease to exist, but it would surely lose most if not the good majority of its power (as if it had much to begin with)

It would be a wise move of the US to pull out, as the UN serves simply as a ball and chain around our country's 'leg'
