I guess because she developed a crush on him. I saw the movie back in 7th grade. At first, it appeared he had a crush on her older sister Margot. But, I guess because they were in hidding from the Nasiz, and he was the only guy close to her age there, plus maybe he liked that she had a lot more personality than her sister. It seems like a little love story, but of course the way it ended was sad, her father being the only survivor, and we all know the story of the Holocust. But yeah, she was attracted to him basically, and she was reaching puberty as well where the hormons kick in.
