it depends on what your weakness is as a breaststroker, but i would suggest doing some lunges, some chairs (put your back against a wall in a sitting position; knees at a 90 degree angle), putting an exercize ball against a wall and doing push ups on it...this will all help with your quads and pectorals general strength.

another really good thing to do, especially during a short course season, is some plyometrics (box jumps). these are extraordinary at increasing your distance off the walls! a short course yard 100 breast is about 45 yards of underwater pulls, and 55 yards of actual breaststroke...so half of your race.

Breaststroke is a strange stroke in that it is largely dependent on legs, where most other strokes are more upper body. For dryland, I would say that stretch cords to strengthen your inscull, crunches and ab work in general to strengthen your core, and pretty much anything to help with you legs you can think of. I personally think that frog jumps, leg press, and using stretch cords on your legs works very well. Just keep in mind that breast is more about timing than it is about strength. Although, being strong is important too.

Some good things to build strength in breaststroke:
* "Pec deck" weights machine,
* Swiss ball, do breastroke leg kicks while lying on your back on an excerise ball,
* Core strength exercises, - e.g. push ups on a swiss ball,

There is also an attachment for a VASA trainer, which lets you imitate breaststroke leg kick on the swim-bench, which also helps!

These exercises concentrate on the main stroke, you should also think about the starts and turns in the race!

Try a leg press machine, or weighted squats for the start, and drive off the wall!

Hope this helps, It helps me when I swim breaststroke, and I am consistently dropping my p.b. times, nearly every race!

If you have a weight room, do bench press, lat pull down, do some shoulder exercises, butterfly machine, tricep curls, and DEFINITELY hip flexors. Also, calf raises, leg curls and extensions are pretty good too. Abs and backs are a must as well.

Breaststroke is about timing and being able to produce very explosive power in short movements so your dryland should help develop quickness and explosiveness. Do pushups where you push hard after each one and clap and do vertical jumps to help build a quicker kick.

Try traininig with a VASA trainer. In my experience the best way a swimmer con train in dryland.

Pushups, the rowing machine at the gym, pulling a tension band. Anything to work your upper arms, shoulders and pectorals.
