To fear God is the lowest rung of understanding God and relationship with God. Fearing God can also be classified as approaching God in awe and reverence.

The trend is to forget God and even reject God in favor of so-called material enjoyments. But, are we really enjoying? We go against nature to enjoy and so we can get bad results for such so-called enjoyment.

For instance, we can take whatever intoxication we like, but we may then overdose and die or some other probem. Similarly, we may decide to have sex whenever, wherever and with whomever we like and then we could get venereal disease and even die.

So we need to advance to the level of fearing God. Once we have advanced to that level then the next really great level is to learn or reawaken our love for God.

In the spiritual world loving God is completely natural. Therefore, we are actually re-awakening our love for God.

I agree with you. I think most people are confused or misunderstand God. Like when someone has a loved one die, or there is a catastrophe, some people get mad at God. And say "If God is so good why would he do a thing like this?" What they don't understand is that everything happens for a reason and that there is no need to be angry or afraid because it is all part of a much larger plan. If people realize this then they would not say God-fearing, it would always be God-loving.

I think it should be both. God fearing is respecting the laws of God.

to be God-fearing means you respect God. Because God is so great and powerful we fear him in a healthy respectful way

Fear in this sense is a healthy respect, as opposed to dread and terror. You could also say God-abiding, like law-abiding. You do not need to be afraid of the law, or God.

Hello!
If a person is God fearing, then they are already God loving.

Marvelous question!!

Religion has mostly depended for its power on the fear of God it has instilled in people... and the fear of afterlife uncertainty.

This is one of the main reasons why religion is unable to get proper followers.... it just gets blind timid slaves who are unable to innovate or create to make religion stronger and more capable.

The term must originate from the Old Testament authoritarian-view-of-God view, in which God was the ultimate general and executioner, spiritually speaking
