To be honest, cigarettes are a big part of the economy. While there are bans in the US against smoking, cigarette companies can export their goods to places where a lot of people smoke like France or Germany and make a good profit. It is also a crop that America was founded on, so there's a lot of tradition in it. While smoking should be banned because of the negative effect it has on people, the economy would still be hit quite negatively if there was a ban, putting a good amount of people out of a job in the process.

Well I would say smoking should be banned. Its killing everyone. Destroying the environment, killing everyone by the second hand smoke. people are probly more aware of the effects of smoking now adays but why do they still do it? It destroys the lungs, it causes cancer among other things.

But others might say it shouldnt be banned because they believe that smokers should be able to smoke. They even tried to make it "better" by having designated areas where they can smoke. Banning them from smoking in buses and public places including malls, movie theaters, libraries, etc. And why do they do that? To keep the non smokers away from harm. So why not take smoking away all together?
Apparently it wouldnt be "fair" for those who do smoke. They do have the right, they have the freedom to do as they please. It is an addiction and it's really sad but they can't control addiction. Like Pringles, "once you pop, you can't stop." or something like that. Anyways, its really hard to quit when you already have it in your habit. That's why they created those patches...to try to maintain or control the addiction without smoking.

I personally don't smoke, but I'm not obnoxious about it like some people are. My mom died from lung cancer and she smoked for over 40 years. Why won't it ever be banned? It makes too much money and employees too many people. Do you know how many people would be out of a job if it were banned? Nope, it'll never happen.

We all know cigarette smoking is bad for you. The fact that second hand smoke is bad for you is why legislation to ban smoking in public places has been banned. We each have the right to go out without our health be compromised without our consent. BUT, in private, a person has the right to do anything he wants as long as it is a legal substance. If a person wants to smoke and eat deep fried lard in the comfort of his own home, its HIS business. If he wants to harm his health, again HIS business. This is still America. Tobacco will never be made illegal due to the fact that our country was founded and financed by the tobacco industry, and they are still huge political contributors and lobbyests. WE have no right to infringe on someone elses right to enjoy themselves in their own home doing something legal. The PC police need to get a life. Personally I think if a private bar or restaurant wants to allow smoking they should be able to, We have the right not to go to that establishment if we choose. We are giving up our rights to those who would control us. Our ancestors fought way to hard to have life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We should not allow ourselves into the big brother state that watches for us and regulates our actions. My dad died from smoking, I hate it , I know the destruction it causes, but I am a patriot and so was he. This is America and if you want to do it, its your right to do it and NO ONE has the right to stop you.

To be honest with you, there is so many other pollutions we breathe in every day that I can't see abolishing cigarette smoke having that much impact. I don't smoke myself but there is pollutions everywhere ie from cars for starters. I say enjoy your life as you only have the one and stop worrying.

How can you TOTALLY ban something that is legal to buy--government approved--Besides that it is a plant that can be grown and if it weren't for sell then people would grow their own and still smoke--It would cost more to uphold the law than what it is worth--Law enforcement and the court system would be burdened with such a thing--

Two words, Excise Tax.

They'll ban smoking in public buildings, private buildings open to the public, outdoors in public, planes, trains, automobiles, motorcycles, horseback and in your own home, before they make the product illegal and stop collecting the taxes on it.

It probably should be banned everywhere in public. Not just because it is a health hazard to non-smokers who don't deserve to be forced to breathe in all of the cancerous chemicals, but also because it smells awful.
