The War on Terror will have no end. As such there won't ever be a conventional surrender of combatants; as long as there is a Hamas or a Hezbollah or any other grouping with an Islamic name, "terrorism" is a mainstay like sunrise.

We are 'winning' when we enjoy relatively peaceful conditions in most parts of the world; most of us are living normal lives without a worry about when, or where the next terror act. This has been possible because of unprecedented cooperation globally among governments and enforcement agencies in the war on terror. Terrorists win when we crouch in fear of what might happen next. This is certainly NOT the case.

The War on Terror has been won.

First, it's not really a War on Terror. It's a war on Islamic Fundamentalism. Secondly, conventional war will not work. The main weapons in this war is Intelligence and Cooperation. We should be trying like hell to recruit Arab and Persian and Muslim field agents into the FBI, CIA, and NSA. Also, we need cooperation from other countries as well. By being discriminatory to Muslims, we are giving these fundamentalist wack jobs a voice. Everyone needs to stop one upping each other, including the US and work together on this issue. I hope the next administration can patch things up with the world or we are in trouble.

I think we should have a look back at where the terrorism came from originally ,,and then analyze why!,,, put plans to rectify the root problems,, they are fighting for a case so we need to put off the case they are fighting for., sometimes they change the case as circumstances changed so each time we need to change as they do until they will loose the credibility, I agree with some of the answers given but its not gonna be that easy,, its a long term war and it should be won peacefully not with blood shades.
embracing liberal peaceful Muslims is one step forward that will lead to many other steps,,, some of the government the states count on are not doing their best in fighting terror they claim they hate fundamentals but they are not really against fundamentalist, the fear of them is deep to the roots, they can't face them alone.

I largely agree with Kenneth C.

In my opinion, however, the War on Terror will eventually be won as a result of the spread of accurate information. Just as glasnost (openness) eventually brought an end to the Soviet Union, I think that people will not continue to be radical in the way that the radical Islamists currently are as the dissemination of accurate news and scientific information increases.

Yes, there will still be people trying to use religion to increase their own power or to cause damage to their chosen enemies. But if the common man around the world is reasonably well-informed, then such leaders will not have enough followers to cause widespread damage (occasional severe damage, as in the case of Timothy McVeigh, yes ... but not widespread damage).

No 1 you need to clarify your question, the war is not on terror but on Islamic Fanaticism.
Second you have to be relentless and never let up or ignore them and hope they go away like some of the lamebrain answers on here, just like when you have a insect infestation in your home you don't spray once and think that you are finish.
You have to keep doing whatever it takes till the infestation is gone.

The war on terror is just the latest boogie man, like the communist. It's purpose is to create fear in the population, and justify the spending of trillions of dollars on pork barrel projects, and corporate contracts. You end up with BS like a 700 mile fence, if you where really concerned w/homeland security, would you leave our ports unsecured and try to sell them to foreign governments? It's just another shiny object, meant to distract the American people while our tax dollars are stolen and our civil rights are violated.

I agree with some parts of the answers here. The information of truth are the only ways to have peace. And the first thing we all have to accept is that it is from both sides that are making up untruthful facts to support their beliefs and/or denying the real facts. Making it all worse.

Lets be logical and look at Homeland Security and all the agencies, restructure them so there is communication and a mission that is exact. Watch our own borders on ALL FOUR SIDES and be a tad more picky about who we let in.

First, by not behaving like them! Second, by not supporting them and their agents even when it serves our short term interests, and third by joining force with the rest of the world both in dealing with them as individual and groups, and, simultaneously, deal with the real disease and not only with the symptoms.
