My wife teaches in a elementary school. The students are in high school. They ring our doorbell or knock on the door and run. They do use a car to get away. They have moved things around in the yard as well. What kind of legal action can I take? I live in Michigan.

Call your local police dept. to see what actions you can take. You should set up a video camera to record them in the act. This way you have proof of who is doing what. If no legal action is an option then you could take it to their parents or the local high school for indentification.

You can call the police and report the vandalism and harassment. If you can write down the license plate number, a description of the car or the minors' physical appearance it will generally help your case. If you know who the students are, you can report their names to the police and ask the police to go to their houses and inform the students' parents. Although the students may know your wife from the public nature of her job, being a teacher doesn't change the vandalism, trespass, and harassment charges that you can bring against the students.

This is a game teenagers play called ding dong dash. I doubt they are only doing it to you and your wife. They are probably doing it to a lot of people. Of course if they are harming any of your property you should report then as vandalizing and trespassing. The easiest way to catch them is to put up a surveilance camera so you catch them on cam and have evidence. Mostly they will stop once the novelty wears down. At best its a minor misdemeanor such as distrubing the peace.
