Yes I own two and they're like little doggies.

To get them to be like that hold them each day and make sure to love 'em lots over all they are great pets but make sure to get two (of the same sex).

I wouldn't say they "bite" unless they were terrorized from when they were very young. Get a young one and handle it regularly. The guinea pigs I've had in the past never peed on anyone but they do poop. Just put them back in their cages for sufficient periods of time between handlings so they can do their business. Guinea pigs are sweet rodents and just like any animal, it returns the treatment in which they've been treated. Be nice to all animals and take good care of them. As far as the way they turn out, get them as young as possible before they've learned possible bad behavior. Have fun!

Guinea pigs have different personalities. Some can be affectionate and some are cuddly. I have had 4 guinea pigs in my lifetime and I love them. They can get potty trained (to a degree) and love to snuggle. They purr like a cat when they are happy. They want lots of attention. But you have to keep their cage clean (weekly) and know that they will occasionally pee on you.

If a guinea pig is handled and cared for, caressed and petted on a daily basis, from the time you get them, they will become very affectionate. They will even respond to sounds, like the ringing of a bell, or a click of the tongue, even a kissing noise. I have two guinea pigs and they always know when its feeding time becuase I make the kissing noise. They come running to their food bowls and will take the food from my hands.

One of my guineas loves to be petted on the top of his head and he will make a sort of purring sound.

Just make sure you pick them up and handle them every day, let them know you can trust them.

Oh, and its a good idea to brush them, too. they shed alot.

Guinea pigs require daily care. you can't just go off and leave them for days. They need Vitamin C every day, fresh water and veggies every day. They love all fruit and veggies. Mine adore apples and bananas and romaine lettuce.

like all animals, they have different personalities. if you end up not getting a guinea pig, try a rat: they are not evil, they are just like dogs that are smaller w/longer tails that don't bark; or try a hedgehog: if you get one that has been handled a lot as a baby and has a calm personality, they are fine when handled, or else try a hamster, gerbil or deigo.

good luck and have fun!

oh, Nicole F, don't get two males. get two females, less agressive toward each other.

Yes, they are really cuddly and they're very affectionate if you take care of them well. They love to be brush, petted, and hugged gently.

You could cuddle a guinea pig, but, being that they're basically a furry body with little arms and legs and no discernible personality, they wouldn't cuddle back. They make little "wheet-wheet" noises, they pee and poop, they sniff and eat and occasionally bite when they're hungry or scared, but their brains are small, and their emotions secret.
A bunny, if treated well, and cared for, can become a warm furry, friend, if doggies and kitties are unavailable. Bunnies also like to chew plastic insulation off stereo speakers and electrical cords, so they do need a sturdy cage and a bit of watching when they're out and about.
Research any considered animal type before you obtain one as a pet, and be sure you can care for it properly.

I had one before when I was little and it did not seem to like human contact. It ran from me all the time and hid under the furniture. I say get a ferret or two. I had two and they are really cool. They need alot of attention like a dog or cat but smaller.

Guinea pigs make great little compainion animals if treated well. We had one as children and he was as sweet and bright as our cat. They have their own little personalites and can be let out to run (as long as you watch them) In my opinion thye make wonderful friends and pets.
