I have been on maternity leave since Nov 9th. I took my STD disability paperwork to my Doctor's office on December 4th. The fronk desk nurse told me she would have the Dr. fill it out and mail it for me. I even gave her 2 stamps! On Dec 19th I called CA STD and they said that there was no claim on file. I called the Doctor's office and the girl told me that they head nurse wasn't there. I left my number. The next day I didn't get a call back, so I called again...same thing. The third day I was pissed and complained. The other front desk nurse told me she would look in my file. She said it was mailed out Dec 20th. That's 16 days later!! I am still her waiting for a check (about 4k) and if I don't pay rent by the 5th I'm going to get a notice. I am 2 months behind on my car payment and credit cards. Has anyone been in this situation or knows what choices I have?? Please I need the advice!!

I take it that STD stands for Short Term Disability? If so, you may want to clarify it in your question to help get good answers.

I haven't been in this particular situation, mine was for long term disability and the health insurance through my job covered it until I was able to get help. Does your health insurance have ANY coverage at all for short term disability?

Continue to contact the State and the Doctor's office until you have absolute confirmation that your claim has been opened. The State should be able to tell you how long it will be before you will receive benefits. In the meantime, I would recommend that you try to get a short term loan to help you get through until your benefits start.

I would also recommend that you find out about your rights, and communicate with your creditors. Find out what your Renter's rights are. There should be a booklet available that tells you exactly what they are. Then communicate with your landlord, the finance company or bank that is financing your car, and your credit card companies. Explain what is going on and see what kind of compromise can be reached. Sometimes finance companies will allow you to extend automobile loans out a couple of months so that you are not behind in your payments, or they may have other programs that can help you.

It's a shame that you are having to go through all of this mess on top of being pregnant. I wish you the very best of luck and hope you will get the help you need. Keep your chin up. It ain't over till the fat lady sings!

First of all Its actually illegal to refuse to hire someone just because they are pregnant I think you should tell your employer your pregnant fairly soon before you start to show and just tell your boss what time you want to leave and just say you will think about coming back after the baby is born.

Try to refinance your house or car or something! My uncle has had this problem. Try taking out a loan on your car maybe.
