That depends on the movie file if it's an AVI or MPEG or other format.

Try to search Google or Yahoo for "demux" and the filetype of your video.

De-Multiplexing (or Demux for short) is the act of splitting Audio and Video of a film apart.

what I would do is play the video in movie maker while recording the sound through my sound card with a program called Audacity. A free program you can get online. To get the sound to go through the sound card, open your master volume from your system tray. open options, and hit properties, click the recording bubble, and okay, then make sure it's on Stero Mix (this doesn't work for laptops). Now open Audacity, and before you do anything, hit Edit than preferences and make sure the bottom drop down box is on 2 (Stero) this allows the best quality sound. Now play your video normally in your movie player program and at the same time, record it in audacity. Once your movie is over you can than edit the sound as an audio track. You can export this track from Audacity to your hard drive in a .wav, mp3, or an ogg, file. the sound will still be on your movie however. If you want your movie muted. Get a program called Windows Movie Maker, import your video. Slide the chapters onto the timeline in correct order. Once you got that, right click, and click select all. right click again and hit mute. or mute them individually however you'd like. When you are satisfied with your work, hit file and Save movie file. it will take a few minutes to save. When it is saved, it is found in the my videos files which is in the my documents folder under the new assigned name. That file will have the new settings. I hope I helped you!!!
Good Luck!!!!!

Most movie or video editing software can output just the sounds. If your file is in AVI or WMV formats you can use movie maker which you may already have if you have XP.
