Ostensibly, we are in Iraq to bring the people the joy and freedom of an American-style democracy, right? Then why do I read so many questions and answers here that equate Iraqis with terrorism, 9/11, radical Islam? Why do I keep reading people stating that we should just "bomb them off the map"? Why do people keep asking questions about "only" 16,000+ Iraqis dying?

Would Americans really rather that all Arabs were "gone"? Aren't we creating more and more terrorists this way?

And what does the war in Iraq have to do with keeping the US free?

People keep talking about the terrorists in Iraq. To whom are they referring?

Your question is certianly reasonable. Although it is our desire to bring freedom to the people of Iraq, it is not why we went. You may recall that we origianlly went to Iraq at the request of Kuwait when Iraq invaded in the early 1990. That war ostensibly came to an end when Saddam accepted terms of surrender which would leave him in power.
When Saddam failed to comply with those terms, the war resumed. In spite of the way many people like to spin reality to fit their political views, the present action in Iraq was not a second war but a continuation of the first one. It just happens that some of the terms of surrender that Saddam failed to comply with was weapons inspections.
It is a well known fact that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction prior to the original gulf war in the form of chemical weapons. His use of them is well documented, much to the chagrin of those people who would have us beleive he never had them. And the onus was on Saddam to show evidence of their disposal to the UN weapons inspectors which he refused to do. The reasons were varied, but my personal opinion is that as long as everyone thought he still had them, then it made him look good in the eyes of neighboring countries and at the same time served as a deterrent to potential invaders of less than superpower size. The resumption of hostilities in Iraq did not come without warning. No fewer than 12 UN resolutions promised "strong action" if Saddam did not comply with the terms of his surrender. But the UN is more or less a toothless lion that makes a lot of noise and little else.
Of course it was also of no small concern that Iraq was a supporter of terrorism. Another well documented fact was Saddam gifting $10,000 to the family of every suicide bomber in Israel.
Saddam's regime may have not been directly involved in the attack on Sept 11, 2001, but as a result of those attacks, the USA declared war on all terrorism everywhere. It was academic as those very same terrorists had declared war on the USA years before.
Those are the reasons why the USA went into Iraq. The friend of my enemy is my enemy.
As for the preception that so many people hate Arabs, I don't really think that all that many people do. It's just that the few who do are the ones making all the noise.
There is a level of frustration invovled as well. The war has gone on and on because in spite of what they say in public, the truth is that the politicians are running this war just as they did Vietnam. They are trying to conduct a war and look compassionate at the same time. What idiocy!
So what I think you are actually seeing is frustration and venting by people who thought that this would be an easy and quick police action. It is an attitude created by a generation of kids and young people who grew up on fast food and instant gratification. Never mind that WW2 lasted 5 years and took dozens more to rebuild the countries afterwards. (and yes, there was insurgency then too)
So when you see or hear that kind of stuff, just blow it off for what it probably is, just venting out of frustration.

I personally have never heard it said that someone "wished that all Arabs were gone". Terrorists and US-haters are out there, and no amount of nice-ness will pacify or change thier attitudes.

No one ever said the war in Iraq was about US freedom with the possible exception of keeping the US free from terrorism at home. The viability of that arguement is questionable, but one can not deny that since the war began, there have been not successful terrorist attacks on the US homeland since. It is a part of the "Fight them over there or else fight them at home" arguement.

The terroists in Iraq at present are the ones coming in from Syria and Iran. Under Saddam's rule, training camps were operating in the northern and western parts of Iraq for Hamas, Al-Qieda and a few others. This information is was well documented back in the early to mid 1990s.

As for oooo's comment: his own words tells everyone what he is.

Because they own the oil which America needs and HITZRAEL (read Hiltler like Israel) needs the land. It is that plain and simple.
