Most recorders come with a chart that tells you how to finger the holes for each note. They are chromatic, in the key of "C", but have a short scale range so it is easy to learn. However, the lip armature on the flute is a lot different from the recorder! I used to teach 3--5 fifth grade classes how to play the recorder. It is easy to learn.

Well, flute is actually very different from the recorder. The clarinet is much more similar to a recorer. With the recorder you just blow in the top and cover the holes with your fingers. The more holes you cover up, the lower the note. A really simple song is "Hot Crosed Buns" which is 1-2-3 1-2-3 3-3-3-3-2-2-2-2-1-2-3 when 1 is the top whole.

Well the flute and the recorder are somewhat similar, but for the most part theyre not. i play the alto saxophone and to my knowlege the recorder is more related to sax than a flute. but anyways http://www.scappoose.k12.or.us/warrenschool/recweb/recorder_fingering_chart.htm <<< thats a website with the basic fingering chart for a recorder and simple tunes can be played with the recorder without much effort like mary had a little lamb, which only used the first 3 holes

Flute and recorder are pretty different. You just blow in the mouthpiece, and tap your fingers on the holes to play different sounds. Mary had a little lamb is easily done with the top three holes.
