Basically it means that you should actually listen to what the other person has to say and think about it before you respond. Most people are too busy thinking of what they are going to say next before they even hear what is being said.

Well I say it could be both! The science part would be the analytical part of conversation,(where your brain decides what your opinion and answer will be) then the art comes into play(if you are wise enough to use it) Art would be basically "How you hold your mouth when you say it!" Two people can say the exact same thing and receive totally opposite reactions from their audience! Why? Because is was not WHAT you said, but HOW you said it!

If you can find a copy of a little bit written by John Taylor Gatto to his daughter on the art of conversation, nothing has so eloquently described the art thereof, and so effectively categorized the different types, and goals.
