Well of course they think that about us. It's because they most likely haven't interacted with African Americans so the only thing they know about us is what they see in the media. It's pretty sad though. My friend told me that at her college they have alot of European foreign students and they would approach many black women on campus and touch and feel on them without even knowing them because they thought that all black women were open sexually like the girls they see in the music videos!

I don't know what book you were reading but I don't like stereotypes and the media has alot to answer for in perpetuating stereotypes! I live in Australia and there are alot of stereotypes and injustices against Aboriginal people here. I don't know why the media portrays black people the way they do and it's not just the US media either.

I hope you have a great 2007!

My good friend is from Nigeria. He says that in his country, they do not accept African-Americans as true Africans or "real blacks" based on their roots to the U.S.A.
He is a professor in a well known university and informed me of this when I asked as he has first hand knowledge of such.

I have friends from Italy and our perception of them is quite different than what is true to fact. They were telling me that Pizza Hut's Sicilian Pizza is an American thing as pizza did not originate in Sicily in the first place and that Italian Sodas are an American invention and not Italian.
I have a relative in Israel an not all Jewish people are sitting around saying, "Oy vey! Vendal! Verz dah Draydel and Matza balls?" (Laugh!)
Kinda like how other countries think we're lazy "ugly Americans"

Hope this helps.

Many people in countries outside the US think of Americans of all ethnicities as they are portrayed in the media, not just black people. For instance, when I lived in Japan, a friend of mine who is not Japanese told me that many Japanese people asked her if she owned a gun, if she had ever seen someone shot dead--stupid things such as that. The media portrays Americans as gun-toting, irreverant, using bad language, and so on. Some people in other countries buy into this media image of Americans, most do not. In some countries, or in less urban areas of some countries, contact with people of other countries is very limited, and they do tend to buy into that media image. Some people exoticize people of backgrounds with whom they are not familiar, and that exotic image is usually produced by mass media.

People who lack contact with other people of dissimilar racial/ethnic/national backgrounds sometimes do believe the media image. Most are willing to allow personal contact to change that image.

Hi. I'm Ashley from Australia. During the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games an African-American tourist asked me for directions to get to the basketball stadium. I politely answered his question, at which point he held out a pocket knife, stabbed me in my stomach and took my wallet, running away, laughing and calling me a "stupid muthafuckin' cracker" (whatever a cracker is, I have no idea).

Why would anybody fly across the world, pay $1,000 for a plane ticket to Australia, only to rob people once he got there?

isn't approximately nationality, is approximately subculture, right here in Honduras are women human beings very mature, yet additionally are women people who act wild, in US women human beings tend to be extra liberal, whites, hispanic, blacks and asian, because of the fact US is between the final countries that individuals can show their self without worry

That's stupid, is normal to have black people in here or in any other country, without them America wouldn't be what's today.
