If the fan was loud when you bought it, then thats jsut how the fan is, and the only way to get make less loud, would be to trash it and buy another one thats not so loud, and has a low dba.If it jsut started being loud, a cable may be touching the fan blade as it goes around or it may be clogged with dust. Take the side panel off from your computer(after its turned OFF), and locate the loud fan. Make sure nothing is in the fan, and blow the fan out well. Don't be afraid to wipe it off with your hands or a tissue. If this doens;t solve your problem and nothing is in the fan, it's probably time to replace it. It's simple to replace a fan, and you can find help on the internet if needed.

First of all, make sure it's the fan. You'd be surprised at how often a failing hard drive can sound like a bad fan.

Secondly, is the fan making a screeching sound like it's about to die, or is it just spinning at a high speed making a lot of racket? If it seems to be OK but just running fast, then you have a couple options:

1) Look in the BIOS settings (when you first turn on the PC). There might be some advanced options in there to limit the fan speed, but keep in mind that the fan is helping to keep the case and CPU cool. Don't limit it too much!

2) Replace the fan with a quieter one. I know it's not the easiest option, but it's not rocket science either. Go with a brand like Antec or Coolmax.

3) You could try to use some WD-40, but be careful you don't get it on the motherboard. This option is really to fix screechy fans. It won't make one that's OK run quieter.

normal reasons for a fan to get loader over time are:
1: the fan may be collecting dust, in this case a simple cleaning should solve the problem.
2: the fan may have been knocked out of alignment when the computer was moved, so in this case try just pulling the fan slightly to re-align it
3: the fan may be old and the motor is wearing out, in this instance buying a replacement is the best option.

in all cases please make sure to power down the computer and disconect from the power supply and or ups. so you can easily and safely open yourt computer chasis and do the required work remeber to use an anti-static wrist strap or other means to discharge any static electicity that may have built up in you or your clothes. static electricity is not good for computer chips and circuits so be careful or a simply £5 fan (plus shipping) could cost you hundreds depending on what you fry (should you be careless when doing your system maintenance).

good luck

Remove it and clean it as well as the heat sync its attached to. It is probably filled with condensed layers of dust. So the fan is probably struggling to circulate the air. If that does not work then just replace the fan.

Try cleaning off the fan blades. If that doesn't help (and it probably won't), the fan is probably losing a bearing and needs to be replaced. You can get new fans at several online computer parts stores such as tigerdirect:

The speed of fan depends on the type of system u r using......means that if u r using a very heavy and fast machine it will definetly make some noise as it will require more energy. Try changing the graphic options to medium. Secondly 'more is always better'..........attach two or more fans so the load gets divided and u enjoy the optimum graphics and performance.....

which fan? is it the smps fan or cpu fan or the extra fan which is present inside the cpu? for all the fans use a vacuum cleaner to blow the dust out and check it. if the problem is with the cpu fan better buy a new fan else it would damage the cpu or the microprocessor.

Possibly the fan bearings have gone, if its under warranty then contact the manufacturer.
