I have 2 boys ages 14 and 10. I am currently 5 months along and have been asked what theme I want for a shower. A theme that can my children can help with would be fun. Any suggestions?? We do not know the sex.

Safari is pretty gender-neutral. Giraffes and elephants and tigers and lions and alligators and hipps and zebras. There are so many great decorations out there for this theme....it is a lot of fun!!

Don't forget the diaper cake at your shower. They are a fun way to get conversations rolling....and are much more practical than flowers!! Think of all the diapers you'll get!! Do one in a safari theme....set the tone on the gift table where it will be featured!!

Just an idea.....

Hi I personally think it has all been done before. But since it will be both men and women and even though she is having a girl you can use the color theme of green, or/and yellow sort of pale, for games maybe you could do a Gerber baby food contest, Who Can Eat the Most Baby Food in the Shortest Time?, who can drink the fastest out of a bottle, who changes the babydoll fastest?, if there are not going to be alot of people give every couple or person a babydoll and have them act as if it were a real baby at the end of each game make sure to give someone their own special prize. Dont forget to add the men also. Good Luck and i hope my answer helps!!!

Baby Shower Themes
If you wish to select a theme for your baby shower, there are many ideas to chose from. Here are just some of the most popular ideas based on our research:

1) Winnie the pooh theme - This is one of the most popular themes for a baby shower. Everyone loves Winnie the pooh and friends and it is not surprising to see this as the top theme in our research study.

2) Jungle baby theme - A lot of people may not expect it, but a jungle theme is very popular for baby showers. This theme is great for decorating as there are many possibilities. Asides from jungle trees and vines, a wide variety of animals are often used, like giraffes, pandas, and other baby animals.

3) Baby duck theme - Baby and rubber ducks are the third most popular theme. There are many items that suit this theme including baby shower decorations, plates, cups, favors, and games. This theme is probably the easiest for baby showers since almost every baby shower supplier carries some duck themed items.

4) Baby twins theme - Twins themes are popular not only for twin baby showers, but also when baby showers are held for two mothers at once. When a mother is having twins, special attention is given to that fact. The simplest and most common way to implement this theme is to have two of everything, for example, twin items in an organza bag for baby shower favors.

5) Sports theme - Sports themes are also rising in popularity, particularly since more and more men are attending and becoming involved in baby shower planning. This theme mostly applies to baby boys, but is sometimes used for girls as well. Sports related decorations and favors are also fairly easy to locate, making this a theme worth considering.

6) Teddy bear theme - The teddy bear theme has been a long time favorite for many baby shower planners. Like the rubber duck, teddy bear themed items are sold at almost all baby shower supply stores.

7) Disney theme - Asides from Winnie the pooh, other disney characters are also popular for baby showers. Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofey are just a few popular disney characters used at baby showers.

8) Baby Frog theme - Baby frogs are used at some baby shower parties and came in as number eight on our study. Baby frog soap and candles make popular gifts or favors and can also be found at shops that sell wedding favors.

9) Baby dog theme - The ninth most popular theme on our list is the baby dog or puppy theme. This type of theme is not uncommon amongst animal lovers.

10) Other themes - Some other common themes include butterfly, noah's ark, cowboy, princess, diaper, safari, lamb, nursery rhyme, and Snoopy. Star is born, Looney tunes, and stork themes were not as popular as expected, but still very appropriate for a baby shower.

Also, note that not all baby showers require a common theme. Many showers will use a mix of the ideas listed above or even come up with a different theme. If a theme is selected, it is up to the host to decide what theme would be the best match for the new mother and her guests.

My sister did a movie theme. We sent out invitations that looked like a director clapboard. When the guests arrived they walked up the "red carpet" and I interviewed them with my sis-in-law videotaping. we asked the guests if they had any advice for my sister. Everyone went inside and we had all kinds of fun movie decor including a fun old-hollywood marquee sign that said that my sister and her hubby were the producers of the upcoming attraction, and then listed the baby's name (if you don't know the name or sex yet then "Baby Jones" or whatever would work too). We served popcorn, hot dogs, pretzels, nachos and movie candy from our concession stand. Your boys could do the interviewing, they could work the concession stand, and they can help with the CLEAN UP!

I'm not sure about a theme, something that your boys can make decorations for though... it would really make them feel like they contributed. A fun idea is to pass around pieces of paper and crayons and have your guests draw what they think your baby will look like. At my cousin's shower she got pictures of aliens, Elvis, stick people, it was hilarious.

trying to include your other children is really nice, but not practical. not too many teen or pre-teen boys want to attend a baby shower no matter what the theme is. i'd suggest thinking of a theme that would make you happy, and save them some of the cake to make them happy.
